BASTIAN
Fuck.
Of course, Owen randomly shows up on a Sunday with no fucking warning and just walks into my goddamn house unannounced. His key is now mine, and I fucking refuse to let him have it back. I donât give a fuck what his reason is for being here.
Leaning down, pressing my chest against her back, I touch my lips to the shell of her ear. âHeâs gone. Itâs my son. Stay here, and Iâll go talk to him.â
She doesnât say anything right away. She nods her head with a whimper. I want to laugh, but Iâm so pissed off at Owen for doing what he did that I canât find the humor in this moment yet. Iâm sure that we will one day, but today is not that fucking day.
Leaving Kellseigh in bed, I grab my athletic shorts, slip them on, and make my way out into the living room. Owen is standing in front of the half-decorated Christmas tree. Heâs staring straight at it, then turns his head toward me when he hears my approach.
âWhat the fuck is going on?â he asks.
I could ask him the same thing. The last time that he showed up unannounced and just walked into my house was probably five years ago when he still fucking lived here. After he moved out, he has had the decency to not only call but also fucking knock.
âI could ask you the same thing. You walk into my house, my bedroom, without notice? What the fuck?â
Crossing my arms over my chest, I look down at my son. He didnât get quite as tall as me. His height is closer to his motherâs side of the family. Actually, most of his looks come from her people.
The only thing that he really got of mine was my business sense, my book smarts, and my inability to see a bloodsucking leech of a woman when sheâs right in front of my face because the woman heâs decided to marry is exactly like his mother.
âMom told me she called you, and youâre not going to pay for anything, so I came here to talk to you about that.â
He sounds pissed off but also embarrassed at the same time. I would ask him about that if he hadnât just walked into me banging my new woman.
âBut now I have more questions than I did just a few minutes ago. Who is that?â
Clearing my throat, I decide not to answer his question, at least not yet. Shaking my head, I look him directly in the eye.
âYou have not been stable with that woman. This is a rash decision that I do not agree with. I am going to go to support you because youâre my son, and I love you. But what Iâm not going to do is pay for a wedding that is last minute.
âIf you want to elope with her, if you want to have a wedding in Vegas, whatever you want to do is fine with me, even if I donât agree with it, itâs fine with me.
